Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate
About Us:
Devonvale is a world class championship golf course, working wine farm and residential estate offering upmarket accommodation, conferencing & event opportunities. Just 5 minutes outside the historic town of Stellenbosch, you will find a true jewel nestled amongst the Bottelary Valley hills – right in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
Our Golf Course:
The magnificent 18-hole championship golf course needs little introduction offering a regular challenge to both local and international golfers. The original layout, designed by Ken Elkin, who designed many of the Capes better known courses, has seen several improvements of late. The introduction of indigenous plants and the removal of alien trees have not only beautified the environment, but have created panoramic vistas of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. Playing here early “before the field” must rate as the most peaceful golfing experience possible, which residents will have on their doorsteps.
The kikuyu fairways and bent greens are manicured with the utmost care to ensure a pleasant and true golfing experience. Standing on the first tee, one immediately senses the natural beauty of the winelands, one of the main reasons the course is enjoyed by members and visitors time after time. We pride ourselves in being the only golf course that can boast an Arboretum and have over 45 tree and plant species marked out across the course.
Devonvale is fortunate enough to have a large dam in the centre of the course, which feeds the irrigation system, and therefore the golf course doesn’t make use of municipal water and water restriction are self inflicted.
Our Restaurant:
With panoramic views of the golf course and vineyards of the Bottelary Valley in the distance, Devonvale’s restaurant is the perfect spot for winding down after a day on the golf course. It is a true delight to sample meals from our diverse menu that has been prepared by our team of chefs, accompanied by a bottle of Provoyeur Wine, from the estate.
The restaurant is open for meals all day and boasts an extensive menu, suitable for any occasion. We have 3 TVs in the venue, so one can even catch the game of the day after your game on the course & not have to miss a thing. Look out for the date of the next Sunday Lunches on our news blog, the outing has proven to be a great success!
The Estate:
Picture yourselves waking up with the distant sounds of birds chirping in the peaceful surrounds of the Stellenbosch winelands, having your favourite hot drink on the balcony overlooking the early morning golfers or the grape-pickers pruning their vines – each and every day.
Great care was taken to design each home to maximise space and ensure privacy, while optimising the views of the outdoors. The 18-hole championship golf course skirts the estate, benefitting those that enjoy golf or those that just enjoy the golf estate lifestyle.
The housing estate is divided into three phases, purely due to style and position.
The first phase, left of the 1st fairway and above the clubhouse and Lodge, consists of a total of 55 residential units. The design concept is village-style living, and homes are designed to face either West or East with views over the golf course or vineyards and the Simonsberg Mountain Range respectively. Golf cart paths have been built to ensure that homeowners can move easily throughout the estate and from their homes to the clubhouse.
The second phase, consisting of 25 units, is built in a U-shape around a communal entertainment area with an 18m swimming pool, for use by residents and hotel guests. These units are spacious, double storey and perfect for small families, holiday homes or are often used as part of a rental pool. Each unit comes with a single garage and one parking place, which are situated a short walk from the unit.
At present we have 80 homes on the estate, with plans currently being finalised for phase 3 of the residential development. This phase is situated on the Northern boundary of the Estate, and will consist of 45 single residential units.
A homeowners association has been formed to which all the homeowners automatically belong. Levies are charged to cover common expenses, such as 24hr Security, common lighting, sewerage, common garden maintenance and refuse removal.
Homeowners and residents will not be responsible for the maintenance of the golf course and two owner representatives can choose to become members of the club without paying the club entrance fees. However, the annual subscriptions are payable, depending on the membership category.
Please visit the sales page for the site development plan and a more detailed description of each property.
