The Clarens Country House
The Clarens Country House nestles in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains, in the lee of Mount Horeb. Situated in the security and tranquility of the Clarens Golf Estate, this charming and stylish country house offers the last word in luxury self-catering. A two-minute drive and five-minute walk from the buzz of the town square, The Clarens Country House is set in an expansive, wooded garden with outdoor braai facilities and rolling lawns.
The Clarens Country House sleeps up to 10 in four luxury en suite apartments in a restored century-old stone sheep shed, and a fifth, detached honeymoon apartment, the Shepherd’s Loft. Each tastefully-styled and spacious apartment provides lounge, kitchen, double bedroom and full en suite bathroom. The main house sleeps one couple each in the Wilde Als and Ouhoud suites and two couples (or a family group) in the Bosman Suite. All these apartments open onto a huge, fully-glassed veranda, Oom Schalk se Stoep, for lazy lounging in winter and outdoor living in summer.
Next door is the Sheepshed Gallery (opening October 2012), dedicated to the wildlife and militaria art of author and artist Peter Badcock-Walters and his illustrations of Herman Charles Bosman’s famous South African short stories – prints of which hang in several of the suites. Partner and kitchen-gardening author, Toni B-Walters runs residential kitchen gardening and herb-growing courses in summer.
The Clarens Country House provides a unique entry point to the Clarens valley and its art galleries, shopping, hiking and mountain bike trails, white water rafting, winter skiing, fine dining and quirky night life – all only minutes away.
