“Malawi is a wonderful destination for those seeking a variety of experiences in a relatively small geographical area,” says Ian Musyani, Malawi High Commission. “Highlights for travellers include Lake Malawi, exotic wildlife, superb landscapes and of course our greatest assets: the welcoming and vibrant people of Malawi.”
Serving Malawi’s capital city of Lilongwe, Kamuzu International Airport is an ideal starting point for exploring Malawi because of its central position in the country. Wildlife Reserves and the famed Lake Malawi just a couple of hours away, whilst the wonders of the more remote northern parts of the country and the better known south are each half a day’s drive. Chileka International Airport, serving Malawi’s second-largest city of Blantyre, offers travellers access to the southern part of the country- where the greatest concentration of attractions is found, including Mount Mulanje, central Africa’s highest mountain nicknamed ‘the island in the sky’, a number of national parks and wildlife reserves and the southern shores of Lake Malawi.
The national carrier for South Africa, South African Airways offers double daily flights to Johannesburg from London Heathrow’s newest Terminal 2, and onto Lilongwe International Airport five times a week.
