Bushmans Kloof & African Travel Solutions News Update

A heartwarming wilderness breakaway in the Cederberg. Breathtaking views and experiences, five-star facilities, world-class cuisine and accommodation of distinction.

Dear Friends of Bushmans Kloof,
It’s hard to believe that we are into the second quarter of the year already… and what a start to 2015 it has been! Easter Weekend is just around the corner and we have two Family Fun events planned over these holidays that are suitable for all ages, as a great opportunity for parents and children to bond as a family.
In March seven of our staff members travelled to London to attend the annual Red Carnation Hotels Collection Staff Appreciation Party in recognition of their hard work and commitment to exceptional hospitality. We are very proud of our team – well done!
We never stop working towards becoming as eco-friendly and self-sufficient as possible. Raised garden beds are already constructed in our walled garden to grow herbs, fruit and vegetables, and we are planning a poly tunnel to increase the amount of products cultivated for our own use. Our passionate gardens manager and eco-warrior, Charmaine Smith has taken on these two projects in consultation with respected eco/green specialists, and the plan is to have them fully operational by year end.
The sheer size and expanse of our 7500 hectare reserve means we need to keep our numbers of game under control by maintaining a fine balance between the various species Done by way of live game capture to bring down numbers in the reserve, with the help of Cape Nature, a qualified capturing team and a veterinarian, we will be relocating some Eland and Cape Mountain Zebra from our property in April. Over the next couple of years we will also be introducing new animals into our existing gene pool. Also on the conservation front, we will be hosting one of our most inspiring annual events, the Clanwilliam Cedar Tree event on Saturday the 16th of May. We’re looking forward to hosting this important day for the 14th time, along with our friends from the local community. Please join us if you can.
We couldn’t be more proud of our Assistant General Manager and Executive Chef, Floris Smith, who is a man of many talents – being the driving force behind the success of our Riel dance troupe, Die NuweGraskoue Trappers. He has headed up a major fundraising drive over the past few months, and thanks to his hard work and commitment, our multi award-winning Riel dance troupe from Wupperthal will be making their way to the World Championships of the Performing Arts in Los Angeles in July this year!
In closure, winter is almost upon us and we are ready to light the log fires, serve the hot chocolate and open the red wine. We’ve put together an enticing mix of winter promotions to give you another great incentive to visit us during the colder months here in the Cederberg. We wish all our BK friends a cosy winter and hope to see you soon! Warm regards, James, Dee and the Bushmans Kloof Team General Manager
