Welcome to the July e-newsletter for 2015!
We’ve just had a Trip Advisor “Certificate of Excellence 2015” delivered to the hotel. Our average review rating is sitting at 4.5 out of 5 – an average that we’re very pleased with! So if you’ve recently left us a rating and review, we’d like to say a big “thank you” for taking the time to tell us how you feel!
Did you know we have a new à la carte and new wine list for The Snooty Fox restaurant? With a new wine list comes an “oddbins” sale every Sunday! All of the wine stock that no longer appears on our list has to be sold, and we’ve cut the prices so drastically that in some instances you’re paying cost price for the bottle! If you want to take advantage of this, then you’ll need to join us for a Sunday Carvery lunch where you’ll find all the “oddbins” wines on display for you to choose from.
Don’t forget that 18 July is Mandela Day; the day we’re all asked to spend 67 minutes to make a difference. This year, Fern Hill Hotel has partnered with Ethembeni Place of Hope, and we’ll be taking 6 “Homestay Owners” through a week’s worth of training in hotel service. These 6 people each run their own small “Homestay” businesses in hospitality, and we’re hoping to be able to provide them with further valuable knowledge and new skills in order to elevate their businesses. Winter Warmers Party – 16 July 2015
On Thursday 16 July, we’re throwing a Winter Warmer party in the Sunset Bar at Fern Hill Hotel. While it’s going to be a party, it’ll be for a good cause as well! We’ll be collecting blankets and warm clothing to donate to charity, and each person who brings a blanket or an item of warm clothing will get a free drink! There’ll be a professional DJ for the evening, as well as drinks specials and specials on pizzas, ribs and snack baskets. For more information, call 033 330 5071. Note that it’s one free drink per person who donates an item, and not one free drink per item donated. Nice try though. ☺
Christmas in July – Sunday, 26 July 2015
Our annual Christmas in July Sunday Carvery is coming up! This particular carvery is always a popular one, and is a great excuse to get all that festive food about five months early! We’ll have Christmas puddings, turkeys, gammon, mince pies, festive décor, hats and arrival drinks for everybody. The cost is R200 per person, R160 for pensioners and R120 for children under 11 years. Booking is strongly advised; call 033 330 5071.
Food Festival – 31 July 2015
Last year we held our very first Food Festival to help raise money for Howick Hospice. The evening was a phenomenal success, and many of you requested for it to become an annual event. Good news!
We’ll be having the second (now annual) Fern Hill Food Festival on 31 July from 18:00 onwards. The entrance fee is R100 per person, with proceeds going towards Hospice. You’ll also get an arrival drink and wine tasting glass. Tickets are available from Fern Hill Hotel, or can be purchased at the door on the evening.
Howick Pre-Primary Fundraiser – 01 August 2015
The Howick Pre-Primary is hosting a fundraiser at Fern Hill Hotel. The “Winter Wonderland Banquet” will take place on 01 August 2015, and will include live entertainment by Cat Simoni, as well as a three course meal. The evening starts at 18:30 and please note that the dress code is formal.
Conferencing and Functions 25th Anniversary specials
For the next few months we’re offering reduced package rates and specials for weddings and conferences booked at Fern Hill Hotel. Our Functions office has cut venue hire charges by 50% for all weddings. Conferencing packages have also been dramatically reduced depending on your requirements.
Thursday is Locals’ Night!
Every Thursday is Locals’ Night in the Sunset Bar at Fern Hill Hotel. You can expect R18 draught beers, R60 beer jugs, R15 glasses of wine and R20 cocktails. The chefs have a number of pub specials lined up on ribs, pizzas, snack baskets (back by popular demand!), and an amazing R70 for a 300g rump steak. What else is happening each Thursday? Live entertainment with the talented Tyrone!
Pensioners’ Specials!
All pensioners will receive a 10% discount off their total bill every lunchtime on Tuesday. What’s more, there is no service charge for pensioner tables of less than five people. Pensioners can also benefit from our highly reduced Sunday Carvery pensioners’ price of R135 per person.
Thursday Pizza special
Due to popular demand, we’ve revived our famous Thursday Pizza Special. Just R25 for a large Margherita pizza! There’s also an array of extra toppings to choose from that have been split into different pricing categories, so it’s easy to tailor-make a pizza to stretch your Rands a little further. What’s more, Windhoek beers are just R17 and a 500ml carafe of house wine is just R38! That means two people could each have a pizza and a glass of wine for less than R90! Booking is advised; please note that take-aways are charged at an additional R7 per pizza to cover the cost of take-away boxes.
Now get more at the Friday Night Curry Evenings! – NEW MENU!
Every Friday night we offer a special curry menu to all diners in our Snooty Fox restaurant. The special menu has just been given an update, with numerous new curries being added for you to try! From now on, all diners will receive a free glass of red or white wine with every curry ordered. This is a new addition to the Friday Night Curry Evenings, and we hope you enjoy the added value!
