JOBURG – WHERE SUMMER NEVER SETS
CEO`s Note:
Our gorgeous summer weather coupled with our city’s never ending appetite for work, play and getting ahead has seen 2013 off to a flying start!
The fabulous AFCON opening jump-started us into Jozi mode straight after our holidays, and there’s plenty more to follow, as our newsletter snippets show. Summer sidewalk sales, theatre, fashion, arts, music, markets and live concerts on one side of the coin are balanced with sports, consumer shows, expos and business events on the other. Never a dull moment here!
Thrilling news is the launch of Joburg’s long awaited Hop On, Hop Off Bus. 12 stops, every forty minutes, see Joburg in a whole new way – from the bright red, shiny, double-decker buses which are now part of the fabric of our city. The first route gives a wonderful view of Joburg’s history, starting downtown, where the story of our city takes shape. Take a bus today and enjoy being a tourist in Joburg. Book online for discounted fares – you pay R120 instead of R150 per person per day when booking online. Visit www.citysightseeing.co.za for more info.
Once again, Johannesburg Tourism Company is thrilled to be welcoming Meetings Africa, the continent’s flagship business expo, to the Sandton Convention Centre, from 18 – 21 February. As a melting pot of cultures, Joburg provides a vibrant microcosm of the continent and is the ideal destination to promote the objective of “Advancing Africa Together”, and in so doing, unleashing our continent’s untapped potential.
Business events are a key driver for tourism growth and development and Meetings Africa therefore remains a top priority for Joburg Convention Bureau. 2012 year saw the launch of South Africa’s National Convention Bureau, a positive move for the industry, but one which demands clearly defining one’s role in the game plan and planning accordingly. This past year has been a significant one for the Joburg Convention Bureau team and we’ve devoted ourselves reviewing, aligning and refocusing our efforts to effectively realize Joburg’s future potential as a significant global player in the business events arena.
The year has started on a busy, optimistic note, borne out by the results of the latest TBCSA FNB TourismBusiness Index (“TBI”), which confirms a return to normal trading levels and an overall positive outlook for the travel and tourism sector in 2013. Great news indeed! Click here to read the report in brief.
Taking our cue from this – here’s to a fruitful, productive and prosperous year ahead!
