Ulendo Airlink Releases New Schedules and Rates:
Over the last few years Ulendo Airlink have made flying around Malawi as simple and easy as it always should have been. They have built a network of scheduled flights that now connect all of Malawi’s hotspots on a regular (often daily) basis. Lilongwe, Likoma Island, the Southern Lakeshore, Liwonde National Park, Majete Wildlife Reserve and South Luangwa National Park in Zambia are all connected by scheduled flights, with Nyika National Park, Mzuzuand Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve accessible on non-scheduled flights. Charity and Flood Benefit from Malawi’s Tourist Industry:
Malawi’s tourist industry has been very busy doing its bit to help out during and after Malawi’s recent floods. From benefit concerts to food aid, the lodges and safari companies have been working hard to minimise the negative impact of these devastating events. Here are a couple examples, and see also the news from Fisherman’s Rest below. And another great story of how involved Malawi’s tourist industry is with its local communities comes from Mushroom Farm at Lvingstonia, where there is a big push to put a young man from a local village through medical school. Quarterly Round Up From Majete Wildlife Reserve
The last quarter of 2014 was very hot and dry in Majete. Conditions were difficult for everyone at African parks, however they were still as busy as ever and you can read up on what they’ve been up to in their latest Newsletter. Among some of the highlights were some fantastic pictures of leopards up close (taken from camera traps of course!), a winner of the majete photo competition was treated to a boat trip on the Shire River and news of fire in the Pende and Majete Hill area due to a very hot and dry October – November. Visit Fairtrade farmers on a New Tour of Northern Malawi
You can now visit Malawian producers of Fairtrade coffee, rice and peanuts on a Traidcraft Meet the People Tour. This new tour in Northern Malawi combines viewing game and relaxing in one of the country’s incredible national parks alongside visits to community projects and smallholder Fairtrade farmers. On the Tour, you will first visit the farmers who produce Traidcraft’s single origin Malawi coffee and you’ll enjoy a cup while learning about coffee production and the benefits Fairtrade has brought to the cooperative. Vincent’s Bar Now Open at Sunbird Capital!
A few rehabilitation works were carried out in select Sunbird Hotels in 2014, key among them being the refurbishment and re-opening of Vincent’s Bar at Sunbird Capital, the Group’s premier hotel situated in Lilongwe. Formerly Tidye bar, Vincent’s has been named after Dutch Artist Vincent Van Gogh and replicas of his work make up part of the decor. That and a combination of creams, shades of beige, gold, brown and a dash of red lend warmth and style to the ambience. Read More
Livingstone Exhibition Kicks off at Hampden
A photographic exhibition – Livingstone’s Living Legacy: Football and the Three Cs – celebrating Scots Missionary hero David Livingstone’s connections with Africa and football – is on at the Scottish Football Museum in Hampden, Glasgow, until 30 May 2015.
It is said that David Livingstone took a football to Africa. He is particularly remembered for advocating the Three Cs – Christianity, Commerce and Civilisation. This was the inspiration behind the project conceived by photojournalist Claire Foottit for Camera Voices. Read More
