Sabi Sabi Newsletter

Fun, festive, fabulous
While the Northern Hemisphere depicts Christmas as white fir trees amid snow-filled landscapes, mulled wine after a day on the ski slopes and evenings warming up around a fire, in South Africa Santa doesn’t need to worry about burning his toes as he comes down the fireplace. Here, our fabulous summer Christmas brings long hot days, balmy nights and ice cold refreshments to cool the evenings.
Festive surprises will be plentiful at Sabi Sabi this year, with each lodge entering into the spirit of the season and going all out to create special memories for guests. As is the tradition, celebrations will start on Christmas Eve. Selati Camp guests can look forward to a popcorn stop in the bush during evening safari – an homage to snow, but much tastier – followed by sundowners and a merry dinner under African skies complete with themed decorations. Bush Lodge and Little Bush Camp are planning their own stupendous outdoor feast, with Christmas crackers and colourful ornaments festooning the tables. Earth Lodge guests will also enjoy a surprise stop during sundowners, a very celebratory dinner in the boma and a milk and cookie bedtime turndown with a Christmas theme. Without wanting to give away too many secrets, Christmas Day will see ‘stockings’ for guests, fun-filled traditional lunches at each of the lodges (calorie free of course), and the gift of the magnificent game drives that are part and parcel of the Sabi Sabi safari experience.
Just a week later, New Year’s Eve has its own wonderful events in store. Selati Camp guests will arrive back from evening safari to a lavish cocktail set up, beautiful lanterns and a black and silver themed dinner accompanied by delicious bubbly to see in the New Year. Bush Lodge guests will be equally spoilt with clinking glasses of champagne followed by a ‘formal and festive’ buffet to usher in 2016. Little Bush Camp guests will enjoy a similar theme to that of Bush Lodge to celebrate the dawn of a New Year, but only after an extended evening safari. Earth Lodge guests will be treated to delicious canapés during the evening safari with a later than normal return to the lodge and a surprise formal boma dinner. And while the wish is for clear skies, rain in Africa is always a blessing and is seen as good fortune, so plans are all in place just in case blessings fall upon us.
After the fun-filled previous night, guests will appreciate a later than usual wake-up call On New Year’s Day. This is a chance to laze in bed a little longer and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature just outside the window, a time to reflect on the year that has passed and wonder about the one which is just beginning.
The Sabi Sabi team wishes all our friends and family, those we have known for many years and those we have just recently met, a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
