Samara Private Game Reserve Sibella introduces her cubs to the volunteers
We experienced something incredible the other day. Sibella and her cubs, bouncing across the horizon, met our eyes as we drove by. We jumped out of the cruiser and followed them from a distance. Suddenly, Sibella growled at her cubs and, leaving them beneath an acacia, pounded into a thicket. A split second later, we heard a blood-curdling squeal. Sibella emerged, clenching a Steenbok by the head between her jaws.
We watched as she stripped the antelope until only the fur remained. The cubs helped her too, cautiously at first, and we think it was the first time they had ever tasted meat. It’s incredible how relaxed these cheetahs are around humans. We watched them for hours and I can honestly say it was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. – Isabel Hoffmann (volunteer)
