Expedition Africa adventure race Starts This Weekend
In a few days, 24 teams will set off from the start of Africa’s toughest multi-discipline event, the 450-kilometre Expedition Africa adventure race. Hosted in the Kingdom of Swaziland, Expedition Africa will challenge the fitness, skills, mental strength, endurance and navigation of all participants. Expedition Africa is an international event on the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) calendar and this year it welcomes 24 four-person teams, representing 11 countries together with journalists from Australia, Portugal, Spain and South Africa. MTN Bushfire Festival 2015 is another great success.
The Bushfire festival ended last weekend and what a weekend it was. Tickets were sold out the day before the festival started (the first time in its nine year history). Plus with so many stunning performances by artists from all over the world this was one of the most successful Bushfire festivals to date. European Visitors on the Increase
The numbers of visitors from Europe arriving in Swaziland soared by 17 percent in 2014, as over 100,000 Europeans visited the country as opposed to 85,000 the previous year. This was revealed by the Swaziland Tourism Authority (STA) and the Department of Immigration. In their 2014 Arrivals by Country Report, STA said the overall rate of inbound tourists’ arrivals grew by a significant 2 percent in 2014, as 1,324,621 visitors were recorded, as opposed to 1,298,803 the previous year. Although of the total, 1,177,815 were from Africa, marking 0.7 percent increase from the previous year’s 1,169,823. Read more
New Swaziland Map
As part of Swaziland’s continuing push to emerge as a stand alone destination, a brand new map of the country has been produced for visitors to the country. The full country map aims to make planning a trip to Swaziland much easier, showing all relevant places of interest, and accommodation, and including an annotated list of Places to See and Things to Do. As well as a full country map, there are also more detailed inset maps of the country’s two main towns and key tourism area – Mbabane, Manzini and the Ezulwini Valley/Lobamba/Malkerns area. Read more
Get Ready For Imvelo 2015
The annual Imvelo MTB Classic 2015 is about to begin! It will be held on the 6th of June at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary and comprises of a series of races over different distances, the longest being 64km. Of course with any great Swaziland Event, the race is followed by a fantastic party for all cyclists. There are four routes allowing cyclists of all abilities to enjoy Mlilwane: The International Tool Hire 64km Classic, The 35km Challenge, The Spur 22km Family Fun Race and The 12.5km Hoglets. New Rooms at Bulembu Lodge
Over the last few months Bulembu lodge’s maintenance team has been working full steam to renovate four rooms and have added a new entrance to the main building. Bulembu Lodge now has these fully renovated rooms available for your comfort, with either shower and bath combination or only shower you have a choice of your preferred layout. They have also done renovations on some of their self-catering units where they added a shower to the second bathroom in the unit and a gas-geyser to ensure large groups don’t run out of hot water. Incwala an Experience of a Lifetime
Swaziland’s Big Incwala ceremony took place between the 8 – 14th of January and attracted a lot of visitors this year from all over the world. Not only were they amazed by the dancing that took place in the Royal Kraal but, as required by tradition, they also joined in with the singing and dancing. Representatives from South Africa also attended the event. Dressed in their own unique traditional gear they were accompanied by members of the Zulu Royal family for the event who happily danced with King Mswati III and locals on the main Incwala day.
