Presence

“The power for creating a better future is contained in the present moment: You create a good future by creating a good present” – Eckhart Tolle
How do we become more in tune with our surroundings? This is something that we often ask ourselves as we go about our daily quest to act in creative response and lead from the heart in every moment. How do you avoid dwelling on the past or the noisy distractions of thinking about what the future holds? To engage and live in the present moment is not simple, we have to master the art of living in the now. This is to live and appreciate the situation that you find yourself in; it is to still your mind and not allow your thoughts to control you…

In the wilderness, presence is about being open to the feeling of the wild, the texture of bark, light as it falls on a leaf or the reflection of a tree on the water’s surface. To notice and appreciate the things around you and how they make you feel is the essence of presence.

Londolozi is one of the best classrooms to practice presence. Time in the wild is enhanced and deepened when we are fully engaged in the moment and truly appreciate our beautiful surroundings. In this month’s newsletter, this feeling is well represented. We are reminded that Africa’s largest land animal is also one of the most gentle and our curiosity continues with the intriguing behaviours of the different lion prides. We also acknowledge the cycle of life and death that plays out each day as we say goodbye to a very special leopard in a touching tribute.
