At The Oyster Box, through our KZN Food Heroes project, we are committed to using locally sourced, sustainable produce garnered from around the province, in as many of our dishes as possible. We recently purchased some fantastic beef and pork at The Royal Agricultural Show in Pietermaritzburg, that we will have on our menus from 1 July.
The annual tourism Indaba in May, once again reminded visitors why KZN… and Durban in particular, are South Africa’s ‘best kept secret’. The weather was superb and the hotel welcomed Media, Trade and visitors from around the world…& got the chance to showcase one of KZN’s premiere tourist products.
The first Guest Chef dinners for 2015, were held in June, at all three South African properties – The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat and The Oyster Box. Gerard Coughlin, Executive Chef at The Chesterfield Hotel in Florida was the visiting chef at each of the events, where guests entered a competition to win two return Business Class trips from Johannesburg to any Delta Air Lines destination in the USA. The winner of the main prize is Ivan Moodley who attended the Durban dinner at The Oyster Box. Consolation prizes were won by Lynette Strom, Tea by the Sea for two people at The Twelve Apostles and Steven Widegger, who won a night night’s stay at Bushmans Kloof.
On the topic of ‘home-pride’, we had a bit of a scare last month, when our beloved cat, Skabenga, went missing for two days. Of-course we were devastated, but what we were totally unprepared for, was the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from Skabenga Fans around the country and around the world! We are incredibly grateful for his safe and speedy return and thank each and every one of you who sent us your advice, thoughts, support and love.
