The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, Newsletter
A WORD FROM MICHAEL Dear Friends of The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa,
The end of the year is approaching fast and Christmas decorations are up wherever you go, signalling the mad rush to finalise 2014.
We have had an incredible year thus far with many achievements by our wonderful staff. Our Switchboard Operator, Shahied Johnson, and his dance partner, Aimee competed in the local ‘SA’s Got Talent’ show where they performed a dance routine. What makes this truly remarkable is the fact that Shahied is wheel chair bound due to Spina Bifida, a condition he was born with. We are immensely proud of Shahied and Aimee who stole the hearts of millions on the show.
Our celebrations continues with two of our young, up and coming pastry chefs, Amore Botha and Michaela van der Merwe, who walked away with the title of Junior Chef of the Year, and 2nd place respectively, during the 2014 Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year Competition. Join me in congratulating them and do come enjoy some of their scrumptious creations at Azure Restaurant! Click to view photo’s on Facebook
I would like to thank them too, as well as our pastry chef Nathan Jacobs for their excellent work on the Pink Tea Campaign during the month of October. In conjunction with Carol Boyes, we served a scrumptious ‘Pink Tea’ as a tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with R10 of the cost of the Tea per person, donated to the CANSA foundation. We are pleased to announce that with the help of our sister properties, The Oyster Box and Bushmans Kloof, Red Carnation Hotels SA managed to raise a total of R 24 430 for this worthy cause.
In other news we have recently launched a new and exciting ‘Art Tea by the Sea’ initiative to showcase some of the beautiful art we have on display throughout the hotel. Once a month, Estelle Jacobs hosts small groups of guests on a fascinating walk in and around the hotel to explain some of the unique art works on show. After the informative tour, guests are treated to a delectable ‘Tea by the Sea’ in our famous Leopard Bar. I am very proud to share with you some wonderful awards that The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa has received in the last few weeks, including our placement as the 4th Best Hotel in Africa in the Condé Nast Traveler 2014 Readers Choice Awards. Locally, we were honoured to receive a Lilizela Imvelo Award for ‘Investing in People’ from the Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom. This is especially rewarding given the dedication and determination of our Human Resource Department, where Alex Marostica-de Villiers and her team work tirelessly to up-skill previously disadvantaged employees. Last, but not least, it was with great excitement that the 12A Soccer team recently travelled to our sister property, Bushmans Kloof, to compete in the annual Tollman Cup, where we were victorious by four goals to two. A big thank you to the General Manager, James Basson for hosting us so graciously, but the cup is now back in Cape Town, and we intend keeping it here! I look forward to welcoming you all to The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in the very near future. With warmest regards Michael Nel
