NAMIBIA – only different
Days 01 – 03 Windhoek & Khomas Highlands / BB & DBB, nature drives, hiking, birding, wildlife
Spend your arrival day in Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek, at leisure, apart from taking delivery of the rented vehicle at your comfortable accommodation. Optional activities may entail exploring the city centre’s many places of interest or visiting a game farm outside town for first encounters with lions, cheetahs, leopards and rhinos.
After one overnight in Windhoek, your self-drive safari for exploring unique Namibia starts off with scenic drives through the Khomas Highlands and a stay in awe-inspiring mountainous surroundings. Enjoy magnificent views even from your en-suite chalet and nature activities, on foot and on guided drives.
Days 04 & 05 Swakopmund on the Atlantic Ocean Coast / BB & Living Desert Excursion
A complete change of scenery awaits you when you continue west across the vast gravel plains of the Namib Desert to the coastal holiday resort of Swakopmund.
Prepare to get spoilt at your guesthouse accommodation situated in walking distance of the town centre, main beaches, and many of Swakopmund’ s tempting attractions for optional activities.
A half-day Living Desert Excursion provides proof that the Namib is anything but a lifeless desert when you meet the ‘Small 5’ and other creatures.
A scenic flight across the dune fields surrounding Sossusvlei in the southern Namib Desert is another extraordinary experience that can be included in your Swakopmund stay.
Furthermore, you have the option to swap the Living Desert Tour for a Marine Cruise on the Walvis Bay Lagoon for observing some of the diverse animal species that thrive in the cold Southern Atlantic waters, while treating your taste buds to some fresh Namibian oysters.
Alternatively, the Marine Cruise can be accommodated as an optional extra in the morning of Day 06 – if you are willing to skip the visits to Cape Cross and the Spitzkoppe Mountains.
Days 06 – 08 Spitzkoppe & Erongo Mountains with San Living Museum / DBB
Proceeding north along the Skeleton Coast and then inland provides opportunities to visit to the Cape Cross Seal Reserve and the breath-taking Spitzkoppe Mountains.
Adventures of a special kind beckon when you arrive at a small guest farm located in a remote corner of the mysterious Erongo Mountains. Your host family lived all their lives in this off-the-beaten-track part of Namibia and share their love for and intimate knowledge of it with visitors over meals, on farm excursions and around the fireplace at night. Experiencing Namibia does not get any more close-up and personal than this!
Your activity programme for the 3-night/2 full day stay includes a guided farm excursion to view pre-historic rock paintings and a half-day spent at a Living Museum of the Ju’/hoansi. This San tribe made it their mission to educate the outside world about the traditional life-style of the Bushmen, their views of the world and belief system – on a bush walk with a group of San men and through interactions with their women and children at a meeting point. Optional farm activities with your hosts are available on the spot, such as hiking, mountaineering, and game drives.
