Anchor’s Rest B & B And Self – Catering
Arrive at Anchor’s Rest, Hermanus to a warm welcome, the smell of the ocean, the distant sound of the waves and the invigorating champagne air. We are just around the corner from the sea and only 150m from the famous cliff paths boasting the best land based whale watching in the world! The village centre is a quick 1.8 Km drive away. Or even stroll there along the spectacular cliff paths, enjoying the breathtaking beauty of the Walker Bay and viewing whales in season. Anchor’s Rest lies between the historic Old Harbour (in the village) and the New Harbour and restaurants (within 10 minutes walking distance) 120Km from Cape Town.
Accommodation:
Our accommodation was carefully planned to offer guests either the option of Bed and Breakfast or Self catering or a bit of both! Each unit is unique in what it has to offer. All the units are designed so as to offer guests maximum privacy, but we are here if you need us.
Accommodation is offered in 4 separate garden suites in beach house style décor.
• Each has its own private entrance and patio and/or garden areas and barbecue.
• Optional substantial Continental Breakfast, served on your patio or in your suite.
• An under counter fridge, microwave,kettle, toaster, for light self catering is provided together with crockery and cutlery.
• Wall heaters, overhead fans, hairdryer, TV, with MNet and DSTV Select, dvd, safe, and WiFi are provided in each unit.
• White cotton percale linen, fluffy white towels, complimentary toiletries, and little welcoming touches.
• A swimming pool and shady garden area are available for guests with pool towels available.
• Secure off street parking.
• Smoking on your patio only – please!
Children 5 years and over are welcome in our Starfish unit.
“SEAGULLS” (Sleeps 2)
Our popular honeymoon loft suite with views of the mountain and a glimpse of the sea. This spacious suite is accessed by an outside staircase from the garden. It has a queen size bed, en suite bathroom with bath and separate shower . Downstairs there is a cozy breakfast area and a separate entrance leading onto a small secluded patio with a Weber barbeque and patio furniture.
“DRIFTWOOD” (Sleeps 2-4)
Our SELFCATERING or B&B garden suite with a separate living/ dining room has French doors leading onto the patio and its own garden area with BBQ and garden table and seating. Kitchenette area has a mini-oven as well as the microwave etcetera. The separate bedroom has a queen size bed and a shower bathroom. A sleeper couch in the living room provides sleeping for extra 2 persons.
“PEBBLES” – (Sleeps 2)
Pebbles is our smallest but very popular secluded double room. Queen size bed and en suite shower. French doors lead onto pretty private patio area with BBQ facilities. Small kitchenette area suitable for light self catering or microwave dinners.
(Driftwood and Pebbles are cleverly designed to become inter-leading, if required, making a 2 bedroomed, 2 bathroomed cottage. If occupied separately, however, privacy is guaranteed as the entrances are distant from each other )
“STARFISH” (sleeps 2-4)
Our spacious family room with open plan living /kitchenette area and Queen size bed leading onto a private patio. A smaller bedroom is available with 2 single high quality beds and linen and is suitable for family or close friends . Full Bathroom with bath & shower. Own private entrance onto enclosed patio with BBQ and patio furniture .
Things To Do & Places To See:
The cliff paths offering spectacular whale viewing, and wild flowers are just about on our doorstep. Stroll along them to the village about1.8Km and visit the picturesque Old Harbour and museum. Browse through the craft shops and art galleries and stop for refreshments at one of the pavement cafes overlooking the bay. Take a drive to the spectacular beaches including Grotto Beach with Blue Flag status and walk to the lagoon.
Visit the New Harbour within walking distance and see the active fishing boats, and enjoy a meal (or a sundowner) at one of the 2 restaurants overlooking the sea.
Choose one of the graded hiking trails in the Fernkloof Reserve, home to over 1600 plant species or take a leisurely drive through the picturesque Hemel en AArde Valley and enjoy a wine tour at one of the estates.
For the more adventurous there are whale and great white shark tours, scuba diving, paragliding and kayaking. Or enjoy a game of golf at one of the two world class golf courses. Ride a horse along the beach…….
Take a day trip to the southernmost point of Africa visiting places of historical interest along the way.

How To Get To Anchor’s Rest, 90 Westcliff Road, Hermanus:
Approaching Hermanus from Cape Town side, pass the Gateway Centre shopping mall and Total garage on your right. Pass through the traffic lights and then take the 2nd street to the right – De Goede Street (also marked with Private Hospital sign and Harbour sign). Travel down De Goede towards the sea and at the T Junction turn right into Wesctcliff Road. We are number 90 on the right hand side immediately after the dog-leg bend!
Or:
Approaching from Garden Route side via Standford, enter Hermanus village centre on Main Road. Immediately after the Main Road takes a sharp bend to the right you will pass the old stone church and the Post Office on your left. At the Shell garage turn left down to the sea and at the T junction turn right into Marine Drive which very soon becomes Westcliff Road. We are number 90 on the right hand side immediately after the dog-leg bend!
50% deposit to secure. The deposit is non refundable if cancelled within 8 weeks prior to date of arrival, unless we can re-let the accommodation. A 10% admin fee is charged on refunded deposits.
