Mdoni House Guest Lodge
Mdoni House Guest Lodge, a Three Star, AA Quality Assured Highly Recommended Establishment, is situated a short distance from the sea amid tall trees on a hill overlooking more than an acre of lush sub tropical garden – a secluded tranquil setting in the heart of the South Coast – “Paradise of the Zulu Kingdom”.
Breakfast is served on the verandah next to the sparkling blue swimming pool, which seems to be suspended at tree top level where there’s a tantalizing glimpse of the sea through the trees. You may be lucky enough to be serenaded by some of the brightly coloured birds that inhabit our garden, or to watch the antics of the vervet monkeys at play.
The large lounge and dining room also hosts the licensed bar. Modern lounge suites and coffee tables flank the television which receives DSTV, M-Net and E-tv as well as all the SABC programmes. We have also provided a microwave oven, plus crockery and cutlery etc, for our guests’ use in the passage Our four double bedrooms all have en-suite bath or shower rooms and are beautifully decorated with clean cream paintwork offset by vibrant curtains and upholstery, stunning metal bedroom suites, ceiling fans, television, fridge and tea and coffee facilities. The two family rooms are decorated and equipped the same as the doublebedrooms rooms, but are larger and have either an extra single bed or two bunks, depending on the size of the family.
Although the house is a non-smoking area, chairs and ashtrays are provided for our smokers on the verandah and pool deck. Other facilities include a braai, ample shady parking for your car or boat and we are able to provide security for your valuables in our strong room.
Our swimming pool is not fenced and therefore might be of danger to children and non-swimmers.
Whilst we try not to intrude on the privacy of your stay here, we live on the premises in a flat attached to the guest house, and will therefore be available should you need us for help or advice during reasonable hours.
As a service to our business guests we offer a set 3 course evening meal on prior request, but two extremely popular restaurants, Jaxx and Schooners Galley are just 500m from here. Their current menu’s are displayed in our reception.
The beach at Umtentweni, approximately 2,5km from Mdoni House Guest Lodge is a large, pretty, protected beach, which also has a tidal pool and an area of sea protected from the large waves by a barrier of rocks. A grassed braai area and tuck shop are to be found near the guarded car park. It is very popular beach with both surfers and families, and large enough to cater for both.
Some of the best sea fishing spots are very near, and we are within a few minutes drive of the “Buzz” of Shelly Beach and Margate. Port Shepstone is a mere 4km away where there are a variety of shops, restaurants and take-aways, and there are many natural attractions close by if you enjoy sight seeing, walking or bird watching. And there’s plenty to do for the adventurous – the highest commercial abseil in the world, wild swing, shark diving, scuba diving, snorkelling, boat based whale and dolphin watching, 4 x 4 trails etc.etc. – Or you could follow a craft trail or visit one of the museums or art galleries.
The Hibiscus Coast is also known as the “Golf Coast” because of the wealth of superb golf courses available. There are 11 within a 50km radius of Umtentweni – the closest being at Port Shepstone Country Club just 2km from our door, which also offers other sporting facilities to guests.
