Nestled in the heart of the Horseshoe Valley, with the upper reaches of the Nahoon River lapping its banks, AA Highly Recommended THORNYCROFT LODGE offers visitors both the tranquility of a rural landscape partnered with the convenience of a mere 15 minute drive to the urban hub of East London. THORNYCROFT LODGE is the perfect choice for the nature lover. It is ideal for nature walks and bird watching. Horseshoe Valley is home to a large variety of wildlife species, from monkeys to small buck to an abundance of birdlife species. Fishermen will enjoy the long stretch of river frontage as well as bass fishing in the lodge’s 2 dams and in the river.

All units at THORNYCROFT LODGE lead on to a spectacularly landscaped central garden complete with outdoor tables, chairs and umbrellas where the guest can enjoy the afternoon reading a book or taking in the unspoilt view of the surrounding hills. The garden boasts a variety of plant species including tropical palm trees, fruit trees (lemons, mangoes and granadillas), and beautifully maintained rose and herb gardens. Each private en suite room at THORNYCROFT LODGE is fitted with a comfortable, spacious bed and crisp, luxurious linen, television combined with a home entertainment system, built in cupboards and coffee and tea making facilities.

THORNYCROFT LODGE offers visitors a relaxing stay with facilities to soothe a wary body and soul. The spa offers visitors the chance to unwind in an already relaxing environment. Guests can enjoy a soak in the rockpool style outdoor Jacuzzi or relieve stress in the sauna. A tranquil massage parlour, complete with massage table and en suite bathroom. The rockpool inspired swimming pool is the perfect place to enjoy a hot summer’s day. Surrounded by sun loungers and wooden benches, it is ideal for a visitor looking to escape to paradise. After a day of pampering, guests can enjoy a movie in the home cinema, which comes complete with big screen, projector and sound system.

THORNYCROFT LODGE is an idyllic choice for conferences, weddings and other special events. The newly built Conference Centre, equipped with up-to-date technology, can seat 150 guests. The centre caters for corporate functions, seminars, workshops and brainstorming sessions, as well as up-market weddings, end of year events and formal get-togethers. The Conference Centre is isolated from the rest of the Lodge, giving clients the seclusion needed for those special occasions. This beautiful hall leads on to an adjacent large patio with large separate bar area, braai facilities, bonfire pit and ablutions. For the client looking for a more intimate and relaxed venue, the poolside lapa is the perfect setting. Complete with beautifully lit bar, wooden dance floor, big screen and projector, excellent sound system (complete with karaoke), darts and pool table, the venue is ideal for a fun filled party. This open plan entertainment area, with thatched roof and removable canvas sails, has its own fully equipped bar. It offers guests a relaxed environment conducive to a great social experience or a relaxed night-cap before bed.

Further down, very secluded and right next to the 2 dams, there is a camp consisting of three building with ablutions. These buildings can accommodate 80 guests in a camp-style manner, and are ideal for hosting groups such as schoolchildren, summer camps, churchgroups etc.

Directions: Take the Amalinda exit from the N2. If you are coming from East London, turn right at the top of the exit. If you are coming from King William’s Town, turn left at the top of the exit. At the T-Junction turn left into Voortrekker Road. After 800 m, you will see a sign “Thornycroft Lodge”. Now just follow the signs. Proceed through a gate and cross the river over the causeway. Thornycroft Lodge is on your right hand side, just after the sharp left bend. Part of the road is gravel, but it is in good condition. Please drive slowly.
