The Fairest Cape
(10 nights Cape Town and Garden Route)
B = bed/breakfast G = golf L = lunch D = dinner
Day 1: Overnight Cape Town (B)
Upon arrival in Cape Town you will be met by an Around the Green Golf Holidays representative. You will embark on city tour of Cape Town, including Table Mountain (weather permitting). After your city tour you will check into your hotel where the rest of the day will be at your leisure. You may want to explore the V&A Waterfront and its many restaurants for dinner.
Day 2: Overnight Cape Town (BGB)
You get straight into the swing of things with your 1st round of golf at the Atlantic Beach Golf Estate. Taming this championship links course, with its traditional style and ocean breezes, presents an imposing challenge. On calm days you can play your normal lofted shots, however when the wind blows the firm turf is better suited to low running shots below the tree line. Either way you are sure to enjoy the challenge presented to you by this 18-hole golf course.
Day 3: Overnight Cape Town (BGB)
After breakfast you head to the Westlake Golf Club for round 2. Against the amethyst slopes of the Silvermine Mountains lies this easy to walk 18-hole Par 72 golf course. Characterised by the towering trees, which line many of its fairways, Westlake has a very interesting, yet user-friendly design and quite a few doglegs. If you manage to stay out of the trees, you are almost guaranteed a good score.
Day 4: Overnight Cape Town (BGB)
Round 3 finds you at the Erinvale Golf Estate. At the foot of the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountains in Somerset West, lies this world-renowned course with its sweeping fairways, deep bunkers and cleverly placed water hazards. The trademark of this course is the vast difference between the front and back 9.
Day 5: Overnight Cape Town (BLB)
Today you exchange you clubs for your camera, and go “half n half”. After breakfast you have an early departure for the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. You’ll be travelling along the Atlantic seaboard through Clifton and Camps Bay before taking in the splendour of Chapman’s Peak Drive. A stop will be made along the road so that you can snap away. From here you travel directly to Cape Point and take a funicular ride up to the old lighthouse. The views into False Bay and up the west coast are simply amazing. It’s just a short hop from here down to the Cape of Goode Hope for the “been there, done that shot”. You continue along the False Bay coast line and head for the penguin colony at Boulders beach, with a stop for a seafood lunch at Seaforth restaurant.
With the 1st half done, you travel along Baden Powell Drive into the winelands. Your 1st stop is a treat at the Waterford Estate, where you’ll experience the pleasure of a wine and chocolate tasting. Then it’s onto the oldest town in South Africa, Stellenbosch, which dates back to 1679. After an orientation drive you’ll have some time to explore this lovely town for yourself before heading to the Simonsig wine farm for your 2nd tasting. The last stop of the day is your hotel, where the evening will be at your leisure.
Day 6: Overnight George (BGDB)
After breakfast and checkout you will be transferred to the airport for your morning flight to George, where you will be met by an Around the Green representative and transferred to Acorn Guest House. There’s no rest for the wicked as you have an afternoon round booked at George Golf Club. Situated in the centre of George, this parklands layout has kikuyu fairways, bent grass greens, many trees and thick under-growth. For a number of years now this course has been voted as one of the top ten courses in South Africa and a “must play” course when on the Garden Route. After your round you return to Acorn Guest House where dinner will be enjoyed.
This 4 Star guest house, in the heart of George, provides bed and breakfast accommodation in luxurious en-suite bedrooms, some of which are equipped with self catering facilities. Exquisite 100% percale cotton sheets and an interior that is a delight! Free wired/wire-less internet access, DSTV and all the other necessities are found in the rooms. Delicious breakfasts are served and dinners are available on request. Being centrally located they are within walking distance of excellent restaurants. In the courtyard is a swimming pool where you can relax.
Day 7: Overnight George (BB)
Compared with yesterday, today is a bit more relaxed as you head over the mountains to the Karroo town of Oudtshoorn. Here you will visit the famous Cango Caves, the Cango Wildlife Ranch and an ostrich show farm. If you fall within the maximum weight limit of 75kg you may even choose to “ride” one of these rather strange two toed birds. After your visit and lunch you will head back over the mountains to George and your guest house, where the evening will be at your leisure.
Day 8: Overnight Knysna (BGB)
After breakfast and check out you will depart for Knysna and the Simola Golf Course for round 5. As the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course on the Garden Route, Simola reflects the great maestro’s philosophy of attuning the layout and design to the natural lie of the land. Keeping your head down at Simola can be a challenge; simply because the views around the course are awe-inspiring, and with this, it is clear to see why Simola takes its place as one of South Africa’s premier golfing destinations. The 18-hole championship course will challenge the professional and inspire the amateur.
After your round you will check into your hotel where you can spend some time exploring or relaxing, and enjoy dinner on the waterfront at your leisure (we recommend 34° South for the best seafood in Knysna).
Day 9: Overnight Knysna (BGB)
Your 6th and final round is played at the Pezula Golf Estate. Situated atop the famous Knysna Heads, the high vantage point allows for majestic panoramic views. The course offers dramatic downhill holes, backed by the ocean and classic sweeping fairways winding through forested areas and indigenous bush. Such beauty is difficult to capture with words. You may choose to book a sunset cruise on the lagoon or spend the afternoon relaxing at the pool.
Day 10: Overnight Knysna (BB)
It’s an R & R day today. If retail therapy, a visit to the Knysna Elephant park or a whale watching cruise (June – November) is what you’re after today, your tour guide is able to assist with making all the necessary arrangements. Alternatively you may choose to play an optional round at the Knysna Golf Club. Please notify your guide in advance to ensure availability of tee-off slots.
Day 11: (B)
After breakfast and check out you depart for George airport for your flight home.
