George Golf Courses: An 8-Day Garden Route Golf Holiday Based in George

George, at the heart of the Garden Route, is one of South Africa’s golf capitals. Within an hour’s drive you’ll find several of the country’s highest-ranked courses, set between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean. This eight-day holiday uses George as a base to play the best George golf courses and Garden Route layouts, with a day out to Oudtshoorn in between.

  • Golf: 5 rounds: George Golf Club, Pezula, Simola, Mossel Bay and Oubaai

Sample itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in George

Fly into George Airport, transfer to your guesthouse in town, and warm up at the driving range.

Day 2: George Golf Club

The well-established George Golf Club is a parkland layout in the centre of town, with kikuyu fairways, tree-lined holes and quick greens. It’s a long-time fixture in South Africa’s top-course rankings.

Day 3: Pezula, Knysna

Perched on the cliffs of Knysna’s Eastern Head, Pezula has dramatic ocean and lagoon views and dramatic downhill holes. It’s a demanding but unforgettable round. Spend the afternoon exploring Knysna.

Day 4: Oudtshoorn

Cross the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, the “ostrich capital of the world”. Visit an ostrich show farm, the spectacular limestone Cango Caves and the Cango Wildlife Ranch.

Day 5: Simola, Knysna

Return to Knysna for the Jack Nicklaus signature course at Simola, set on the hills above the lagoon. It’s a superb design with views to match.

Day 6: Leisure day

Go shopping, take a boat cruise, go shark cage diving in Mossel Bay, canoe a Garden Route river, or relax on the beach.

Day 7: Mossel Bay Golf Club

Perched on cliffs above the Indian Ocean, Mossel Bay is the home club of 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen. It’s not long, but the tricky greens and sea breezes keep you honest.

Day 8: Oubaai and departure

Finish at Oubaai near Herolds Bay, an Ernie Els signature course with links-style fairways on the cliffs and mountain views, before your flight from George.

Other George golf courses

Fancourt in George is home to three acclaimed courses: The Links (a Gary Player design that has hosted the Presidents Cup), Montagu and Outeniqua. Note that The Links and Montagu are generally reserved for members and resort guests, so ask us about access if they’re on your wish list.
